Me and CAS

My name is Jeffery Macatangay Hansen. I was born in the south of Thailand, Songkla but I have been travelling through South-east Asia for my whole life, residing, in Indonesia and Singapore. I am half Danish and half Filipino. I've been at Regents School for about 8 years. In Recent years I have decided to take up numerous leadership roles within the school community and out such a Senior House Captain, Round Square 2010 Conference Steering committee, Pillar Leader (Prefect).

Year 12
 When I look at myself at another person perspective, I personally think that i have a bright future. If I looked at myself few years ago, I would definitely say that I would be having a mediocre future because I never was willing to try anything never really thought of anything. All I focused on was studies and football until one day, I had an epiphany while taking a stroll around Maprachan Lake where I saw these people at the lake fishing, they seemed, in a way, relaxed and were living the good life that was when I understood that life shouldn't just be about study or work life because it is much more than that from that point of time I've been take nearly every opportunity that presented itself to me feared or not, although, I say this, there are limitations and I must keep an open mind and must think what in the end of the day is better for me. I prioritize everything, first comes education and academic, secondly comes leisure or extra curricular activities as some of these may provide a good sense inside. I'm beleiver in karma but I do beleive in it to some extent so that why I do a lot of service clubs. I like to have fun but I do display a level of maturity when needed. I have a very busy schedule but I manage to balance everything without going 'crazy'.

Year 13
Through a year of going through CAS, I have found that the CAS learner profile has been able to assist me the different aspects of my life. I have also been much more reflective in areas outside the IB profile because I think this is a crucial process for self improvement. Right now in areas of the learner profile I am an inquirer because I’m currently teaching myself a how to use a few different Designing and photo manipulation tool, I’ve also taught myself how to use video editors like Sony Vegas and Roxio (still learning Sony Vegas but I know most). Im really a why person and This is one of the strongest parts of the IB profile Im extremely good at. 

Another similar aspect of the learner profile is the knowledgeable aspect I’m very interested in psychology and usually I tend to research areas that interests me like psychology behind attraction as well as marketing, upon this note I’ve read books about the advertising world as I would aspire to work in this industry one day and reading these books would give me huge insight into how this industry works. 

Also similarly the aspect of being a thinker has improved as As a Catholic Christian follower, I do have high standards of morals and although I’m not perfect I frequently get tested morally on one decision or another. As also a believer in science I tend to not rely solely on one source and challenge opinion and scepticise constantly.
Communication a big part of my life is another aspect I think I may excel in. Simply by becoming a leader within my own school community I have feel I constantly try to unlock the best ways of communicating the ideas of what I’m representing.

Being principled is one of my most valued principle. Integrity has played one of the biggest parts of my life as child I believed integrity was one of the most important things I couldn’t fail at. In terms of accepting responsibility I do believe is at times and certain situation a weak point of mine although I came trying to work on this.

Being open minded has always been in my life but it now more active more than ever. Growing up within different countries in south east Asia area I am very aware that different cultures have different customs and behaviours also having parent from entirely different parts of the world I am also accustomed to western life and this follows on as a normal thinking within different aspects of life.
Caring, I do believe having a strong Religious background given myself the ability to notice that the world is not all a fairytale with also the geography of countries I’ve lived in allows me to observe some very helpless people in this world who do need a helping hand. And I wish to at times be one of those people giving an open hand.
By constantly going for new challenges I think I cover the aspect of being risk taker. There is a reason why I am Adventure Pillar leader and I Strongly agree with the definition of adventure within our round square ideology at the same time I must constantly show the definition through my own actions.

Being balance through the year has been probably the toughest task for me however, I still think I done enough to incorporate this aspect into my life. I can say I’m not the smartest, I can say I’m not the sportiest, and I’m not the most strong willed person but in the end I can say I have a very well rounded persona with decent intellectual, physical and emotional abilities

Reflective is one of my most important and most useful and most valuable. Out of all the IB learner profile statement I think this is my biggest weakness however, I think in the past year this a improved a whole lot and now I value a lot.

I've have tried to incorporate every aspect as equally as possible but of course this is not the case in the final year I hope to improve on my weaker areas like balancing and reflection, as well as, keep the high standard of my other aspects to improve.
