Senior Games (2010) Feb. 2010

The Senior is a fairly new Annual sports competition. As FOBISSEA games are not running for senior student this is the only alternative. I accepted the invitation by Mr. Larkins to join his team for the senior games football because throughout the year I've had to decline many of the matches and I basically gave up football because it conflicted with  steering committee commitments of the Round Square Conference 2010.

My main aims of the senior Games was to make new friends, get into podium position, have fun and play my hardest. During the games I found myself very Unfit and it was extremely exhausted to the play game after game, luckily there were substitutes with consideration I took someone else's position by playing in this tournament, I kindly let the substitute take my place while I recovered. I tried to give a fair amount of play time to the other players who didn't get to play as much as me. It was really my first time in many months that I got a good chance to play football so I really wanted to challenge myself and see if I still have my talent and I can still play along some of the best in our school. It meant a lot to me because I love this sport and when I had to give it up for long time kind of broke my heart.  And it would be my only chance until after the conference is over. Knowing this in every match I would put 110% into every match I played, no matter how tired I was, no matter how much pain I was in I wouldn't let my passion for the game die down.

In the end, my team placed 2nd and knowing I played exceptional really made my day and motivated myself to continue with my prior duties of steering committee member as I knew I would be welcomed back into the football team with open arms. The Tournament really made me think that if you have a passion for something would it suddenly be innate within you and just takes a bit of work to light a burned out flame you used to have. I learned that determination can be a huge factor in overcoming obstacles. I acknowledged that we must not get in someone else way by your own action as for the better of the team we must communicate as a team a share the load equally are else 'we are not a team at all'. 

Baan Mae Lid School / Mae Hong Son Hill Tribe Project Feb. 2010

Baan Mae Lid School is a community partner of the Regents school and have been working with each other for years. My older brother had previously been to this trip saying to me what a fantastic time he had. I knew I had to go.
My objective I wished to accomplish on this service project to interact and connect with people of Baan Mae Lid School. We did many different activities, learn how to bag weave, teach them English, play football, learn how to make bracelets and many more. Other there I learned knew skills as well as embracing the northern traditions and historically used tools of Thailand. My outcomes I feel I really achieved was that I connected with a few people, who I would say scared of my probably because of my large stature, into becoming fairly good buddies. I did however, come across a few difficulties as I do not speak much or any Thai at all so there were fairly difficult challenges for me. I overcame this problem by getting a buddy with me who would be able to translate and made it a lot easier for myself. This experience was an overwhelming experience and will truly be cherished and I will remember it for the rest of my life. The Hill Tribe community's hospitality was extremely generous and it made me learn that the simplicities of life are what we should cherish and be content with. With this Skill, I am now a very positive person and quite optimistic but I am still realistic and at time pessimistic. However, I will always keep whatever I learnt, experienced, received in the Baan Mae Lid School in the bottom of my heart.

Young Artist of Thailand Competition 2009 Nov. 2009

The Young Artist of Thailand Competition 2009 is a competition where participant would send in a piece which would be then selected later on by a committee and then if one made it to next round judge will choose the winner from a whole range displayed and if won there is prize money, trip to London and title of Young artist of Thailand competition.

The nature of this competition really allowed myself to tap into my own creativity. At this point of time, I had just about Started the IB program and at that point I felt the pressure and stress already coming into play so I tried to find sort of an inner-peace within myself and portray that into paper. Looking at previous winning artworks really inspired me to do my best and if I was lucky enough I could move on to the next round. As time past, I started to get anxious on whether I made it through to the next round constantly badgering Mrs. Burden on the status of my artwork. At times, I had doubt the if had made mine to simplistic or my observation upon detail were minimal but I always believed in my ability as an artist. The time came to admit that I had not made it to the second round, however, I was so pleased with my work I took it home with where I could store my other artworks I can be proud off. The experience really taught me how to be more resilient, more optimistic but realistic at the same time, control my taught and channeling them into positivity. Through this competition I gained an extremely valuable tool I would essentially need for the next coming 2 year of IB, the ability to handle frustration at boiling point.

Volleyball Team Sept. 2009 - Nov. 2009

A few of my friends who are already in the senior volleyball team suggested that I should join too. Now, I dont normally play volleyball and it a relatively new sport to me. In this activity, I learned a lot like how to smash, how to set, how to block, positioning and etc. I proved to be quite valuable player and hopefully sooner or later I could possibly be captain. Because of my busy IB scheduele, playing volleyball managed to fit in therefore I was able to get a bit fit as it is not a too demanding sport. (5hrs of Action)

Blind School (26th November 2009)

The Round Square student guild had donated money a few student from our school to give the Blind School a MERRY CHRISTMAS!! Mr. Crouch had thought it was a good idea for the student guild members and Round Square 2010 committee member to tag along and enjoy the day with Blind School student. When I arrived there, I had recognized that place before, because I had been there before when I went with my church. We gave various different snack and drinks for them to enjoy. This day, I quite enjoyed because I had a good time talking with them and they also played music for us which pleased me quite a lot. This day was beyond satisfactory and learnt that even with limitation your world still is open to your choosing and that difficult obstacles are always possible, you just got to try, try and try. Amnesty International / Building outsized toys (Term 1)

These 2 activities were working in co-operation with each other to help in the center at Pattaya. The toys that we made would go to the children at the center for them to play.

week1
This week we were brainstorming on what toys we could make for them, I had come up with many ideas. This week, I learnt that the most effective way of brainstorming to making a product is to draw lots of sample sketches. These sketches did not have to be neat but able to see the idea and just needed to be quick. (1 hr of Creativity)

Week 2,3,4
These weeks we were assigned to design a 'overesized' snakes and ladders game. I learnt how increase things to scale. And I had been asked to also assist the younger student, if and when they had problems. By doing this, I learnt how do deal with less intellectual and younger student, some with poor English skill, when the don't understand, I would be able to explain to them. (3 hrs of Creativity)

Week 5
This week I went to the center where we would play with the little children. It was extremely difficult because I do not speak a word of Thai and they did not speak English. We played various games like hide and seek, monkey in the middle and sometimes we would let them play with the ball. I learnt how to communicate with another person when there was a language barrier between us (2 hrs of Service)

Week 6
This week I went back to the center again and this time I brought balloon for them to play with. They really enjoyed playing around with them however the balloon had burst quite quickly after a few minutes of playing with them. I learnt how to calm some of them down even though there was a language barrier.
